Koseč troughs
About the location
The Koseč troughs are located under the village of Koseč and are followed by an orderly circular route that takes about two hours. The troughs are up to 60 meters deep, wild and difficult to access, so unfortunately it is not possible to see them in their entirety. The troughs were carved into the flat limestone by the Brsnik stream with an uneven and large steep riverbed. Because of this, the water falls in waterfalls and large and small rapids. Karst water also springs from the walls of Koseč troughs, which deposits tuff.
How to get to koseč troughs?
From Kobarid we drive towards Drežnica, where we turn right towards the village of Koseč. In Koseč itself there are no parking facilities, so it is best to park in a suitable place along the road between Drežnica and Koseč or in the parking lot in Drežnica. The starting point for the troughs is in the village centre. The marked hiking trail to the Koseč troughs leads past the picturesque church St. Just, along a fenced stone forest that locals once used for herding cattle, and past the waterfalls of the Stopnik stream, to the troughs and then to Glavica, where there are bioenergy points on the benches.Along the Ročica stream, the path leads uphill back to the village of Koseč. Along the way are the waterfalls Stopnik I with a height of 22 meters, Stopnik II and III with heights of 16 and 21 meters, which follow each other in an extremely short distance, and Stopnik IV with a height of 25 meters.
Church of St. Just
The church was built in the second half of the 14th century and is one of the oldest sacral monuments in the Posočje region. It was made in the late Romanesque style from tuff stone used from the Koseč troughs. The church is famous for its frescoes from the second half of the 15th century.
