Waterfalls of Loška Koritnica
About the trough
Loška Koritnica is a picturesque valley in the Triglav National Park, which is surrounded by 15 2,000 peaks. Through the valley flows the river Koritnica, which has its source in the trough end of the valley – below Mangart on the Koritnica alpine pasture. Its tributaries Predelica, Roja, Možnica, Kaluder Fratarica and Šumnik hide many pools and waterfalls. At Kluže Fortress, Koritnica has carved 200m long and 70m deep Great troughs, which are the deepest in Slovenia. This part is protected as a natural monument. The river continues to flow up to a kilometer-long and only 20m wide gorge and then in a varied riverbed to the confluence with the Soča near Bovec (Vodenca).
The most famous waterfalls of Loška Koritnica are located on the Fratarica stream
- Dvojna latvica
- Katedrala (Cathedral) – an 18m high waterfall where the water flows out from under a mighty rock arch giving the impression of a hall, hence the name of the waterfall.
- Parabola - also named after its peculiarity. Its parabolic beam falls almost 50 m into a pool.
- Veliki Drsnik - 112 m high waterfall that reigns over all waterfalls; is unfortunately not easily accessible.
Please note
The path between the waterfalls is very demanding in some places! For adrenaline enthusiasts: canyoning with a qualified guide is possible on the Fratarica stream!
How to get to Fratarica waterfalls?
At the end of Log pod Mangart, just before the bridge over Predelica, we turn right. The rough macadam road descends slightly, turns right and leads us in approx. 200 m to a wider area along Koritnica where we park.
